Where Is The SUN!

May 23rd, 2011 by zoe No Comments

Oh my! I don’t want to sound overly dramatic but I just looked at the forecast and …. I wish I hadn’t. The word for the week is RAIN.  As in… the entire week is set to be a veritable stir fry of wetness!

So I will perhaps need to get a rain jacket, a fancy umbrella, maybe some colorful rain boots.

But the Earth is growing, greeness is abound and when the sun does come out again it will all be lush and lovely.

So I will do my best to embrace the Spring rain elixir for it does indeed bring with it the green and the flowers.

We are still feeling a bit in outer space over here.  I got a request from a special little friend for a color by numbers page.  I couldn’t see dictating the colors though, so pick your colors fill them in the box and see how it flowers.

Just Add More Kids

May 22nd, 2011 by zoe No Comments

There are always new tricks to learn in the long distance marathon of parenting.  This Spring my kids have reached an age where they don’t always need or want me to play in their games.  Some days they really do LIKE each other, which frankly blows my happy meter into overdrive.  I learned something marvelous recently,  “just add more kids” and they will all run, jump, sing together for hours completely uninterested in adults whatsoever. Yes, we have finally reached the fabulous stage of cooperative play. Can you say hooray, hooray!  So try it out, if you don’t know this top-secret parenting trick already, borrow other people’s children for the day and grab yourself a copy of Vanity Fair, have an extra coffee, sit back and listen to the sweet sounds of fun.

Hope your aliens are enjoying the Spring flowers as much as we are.

Love in the Mailbox

May 16th, 2011 by zoe No Comments

I guess it really is true, mail has gone out of style. I miss it. Yes, I guess email is more “environmental” but I have letters from dear friends that I have kept for over a decade, I can’t say it’s very often you save an email!   I miss the idea that the journey to the mailbox would turn up treasure rather than a snack of BILLS and JUNK.  Kids  love the mailbox!  My little dudes will carry a card they received in the mail around for days, to them snail mail is pure treasure. Just today they received the sweetest love note from their little buddy.  Making and sending little cards to special friends is a great way to bring some beauty and thoughtfulness back to the mailbox.

unlikely friends

This week a fox stopped by the house for a mid morning snack. We had 10 chickens… and then there were 7.  For us it is a fact of life, out in the woods there are real wild animals who think our plump chickens are a perfect snack.

Still, I wish it was more like this! Here is a sweet little fox with his feathered friends  to color, just click the photo and print.

Robots and toast

May 6th, 2011 by zoe No Comments

As kids, my sister and I would come home from school ready for a snack. We would undoubtably whine at my mother – “MOM, what can I have as a SNNNaaaackkkk!”, and she would always sweetly reply, “Well, there’s toast”. Now that I am a mother I can look back at her response and be thankful that she was always calm and helpful. We were so lucky in that way, our Mom was always nice to us.  The part that we kids found endlessly frustrating was that the answer was always the same, TOAST!  But the hilarious part is that we kids would STILL ask the question, as if we were forever holding on to the idea our mom might suddenly have a cupboard filled with crazy junk food snacks waiting for us. Not!

My sister was always so much smarter than I, by the time she was 7 she was an excellent chef, I on the other hand just continued to eat toast.  Yum, toast!Robot Paper Dolls to color and make you toast!  Click photo and print.
